One Of The Powerpuff Reboot Stars Dropped Out Of The Show, So Pls Just Let It Die Already

Powerpuff Girls

Hooooo boy, if you think The Powerpuff Girls reboot couldn’t get any more cursed, one of the leads just dropped out. Chloe Bennet will no longer star as Blossom in the pilot, leaving a huge gaping hole in what is turning out to be such a MESS.

Before we get into it, let me count the ways luck has not been on this reboot’s side. Firstly, remember when pictures from set leaked to Twitter and everyone dragged the reboot to hell and back? REMEMBER? The costumes were very low budget, like school-carnival low budget. And yet, some of us (me) held out hope. Maybe it was a flashback scene to an actual school carnival, you know?

And then came the alleged script. This also leaked to Twitter and while it was never confirmed to be real or not, The CW (the network which ordered the pilot) took a sledgehammer to the project and asked the crew to start again. So the script can’t have been good.

Around about now, hope started to dwindle.

“The reason we do pilots is sometimes things miss, this was just a miss,” The CW’s Mark Pedowitz said at the time, as per Deadline.

Eek.

And now here we are, completely hopeless.

According to Variety, the delay from reshooting the pilot has led to scheduling conflicts, forcing Chloe Bennet to exit the project. The pilot will still go ahead with casting for her role to begin in the coming months.

The live-action reboot, simply titled Powerpuff, focuses on the now 20-something superheroes who resent losing their childhoods to fighting crime.

Dove Cameron is still attached to star as Bubbles, with Yana Perrault as Buttercup.

Just scrap Chloe from this picture, I guess.

While I would accept these unfortunate series of events as a sign that maybe the world doesn’t want a Powerpuff Girls reboot, the team behind the pilot still appear committed. And maybe it’ll all be worth it, with new costumes, a new script, and a new Blossom.

What else could go wrong, right?

Don’t answer that.
