It’s been a little while since we’ve seen Zach Galifianakis dance with what brought him – that signature affable, goofy style comedy has taken a backseat over the past couple of years as Galifianakis has played things reasonably cool on the silver screen front.
2015 will see him appear slightly more often than we’ve seen, however. And we’ve now got a quick look at what looms as being his only leading role for the year in Masterminds.
Directed by Jared Hess (a name you might be familiar with if the movies Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre mean anything to you) the film revolves around a pair of bumbling would-be bank robbers, the mast criminal out to kill them, and the hitman they hire to protect their back.
And the cast? Oh lord, this cast. You lie awake at night and dream of having a cast in a comedy movie in 2015 be even half this good.
Alongside Galifianakis, we’ve got Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Ken Marino, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Jon Daly, and Devin D. Ratray.
That last name might not ring any bells right now. But if said the sentence “Buzz, your girlfriend! WOOF!” things might become a little clearer.
The script itself has been handled by a murderer’s row of screenwriters, which includes Chris Bowman, Danny McBride, Jody Hill, Hubbel Palmer and Emily Spivey.
It’s due for release in August of this year. For now, take a look, and get keen.
