The ‘Charmed’ Reboot Is Apparently Gonna Cop An Extremely Feminist Edge

Get yr wands out, mates. Because the Charmed reboot is officially coming. And not only that, but new story details confirmed by the show’s network reveal that the new show is going to have a deliberate and very visible feminist edge to it.

The CW has confirmed that the rebooted version of the hugely beloved late 90s series will get a pilot order, meaning one way or another at least one episode of an updated version will be made.

Unlike prior reports, however, the new series will not serve as a prequel to the original series.

Previously it was believed that the reboot would be set in the 1970s, however the CW has confirmed instead that the new series will be set in the present day.

Beyond that, new story details have confirmed that the series will be highlighting feminist elements, noting that the characters will not only be smashing demons, but the patriarchy as well.

This fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done.

Setting the series in the present day leaves the door open for cameos from original cast members like Shannen DohertyAlyssa MilanoRose McGowan, or Holly Marie Combs.

Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin, who previously wrote multiple episodes of Jane the Virginare penning the script for the new series.

No word yet on when we’ll actually get to see the rebooted Charmed, but this new information by itself should be enough to render even the most skeptical of fans cautiously optimistic.
