Channel Seven Has Finally & Mercifully Put ‘The X Factor’ Out Of Its Misery

Aww shucks, you guys. Channel Seven has finally brought the Sword of Damocles down on the flailing ‘X Factor,’ confirming the reality singing show will not be returning in 2017.
The network confirmed the show has officially been axed earlier today, after a lacklustre 2016 season saw ratings take a tumble.
Seven’s head of programming Angus Ross confirmed the axing in a statement to TV Tonight, admitting that the show’s mediocre performance was a disappointment for the network.

“X Factor is not coming back.”

“Obviously the back half of the year wasn’t as successful as the front half of the year for us. We walk away with Secret Daughter as a win from the back half, but there was a bit of disappointment with some of the other shows.”

“But we are very hard markers on ourselves, versus others. Some numbers that may get a pass mark on other networks don’t get a pass mark with us. So we have a number of slots to fill and over the next couple of months we’ll be announcing a lot more.”

This leaves ‘The Voice‘ as the sole-remaining locally produced singing-based talent show left on Australian network screens.

Seven, who also put the kibosh on ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ declined to state what they would be bringing to their programming slate in place of ‘X Factor,’ which ran for 8 seasons beginning back in 2005 and for a mystifying period of a couple of years paid Redfoo actual money.
We do know that they will be bringing the Marco Pierre White-helmed ‘Hell’s Kitchen Australia‘ to screens at some point in 2017. But beyond that, the network simply remarks “watch this space.”
Yep, cool. Will do.
