In what can only be described as far too wholesome, Chance the Rapper has shared with his fans the story of how he met his fiancée when he was just nine-years-old.

In a Twitter thread, the artist – real name Chancelor Jonathan Bennett – revealed he’ll be marrying his childhood sweetheart Kirsten Corley this weekend.

Captioned “Storytime. A thread on how I met my wife”, Chance shared an old photo of Corley from 2003. It was taken on the day they met.

“My mum used to work as a real estate agent at a black owned franchise called Re/Max Exclusive Properties. One night, she took my dad and my brother and I to one of her office parties to get better acquainted with her co-workers.”

Just a wee kid at the time, Chance wasn’t very interested in this social affair until suddenly, the room was told to make space for an exclusive performance by Destiny’s Child.

“From the back stepped out three young girls. Who were not Destiny’s Child,” he explained.

As the girls got into position and the opening beats of Independent Women filled the room, Chance locked eyes with the “prettiest girl I ever seen in my almost-a-decade of life on earth.”

“I really shouldn’t say locked eyes cause really, I was just staring at her; as she and her girls were conquering this choreography and mastering the art of lip-syncing in a way even the most professional performers have yet to accomplish.”

Already quite the talented child – “I had already won two school-wide talent shows for dancing” – Chance’s dad nudged him and said “‘Chance do that lil dance you and ya friends be doin’” and “‘Son show em the tootsie roll’.”

“‘Son go out there. Show em what you got.’”

This wasn’t the time or place. Not just because it wasn’t my party, not because it was their moment to dance, not even cause I was nervous about dancing in front of folks. It’s cause I knew I was gonna marry that girl. And I ain’t wanna jump the gun. So I shook my head with anxiety, moved to the back of the crowd and never even introduced myself.

16 years later it’s happening. This weekend is the time, and the place is my wedding. I’m gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny.

On Instagram, Corley responded “*sobs uncontrollably*” and that pretty much sums up our reaction.
