Cate Blanchett Dedicates Her BAFTA Win To Philip Seymour Hoffman

In an emotional awards speech, Cate Blanchett has dedicated her best actress BAFTA win to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Fellow Australian Catherine Martin, the wife of Baz Luhrmann, also took home two BAFTA awards for her production design and costume design work in The Great Gatsby.

Blanchett, who has so far swept the awards season for her role in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, is currently the undeniable favourite to take home the Oscar. She co-starred with Hoffman in the The Talented Mr Ripley back in 1999. Since then, the two have remained close.

“Your monumental talent, your generosity and your unflinching quest for truth both in life and in art, will be missed by so many people … You raised the bar, continually, so very very high and all we can do in your absence is try to raise it.”

“Phil, buddy, you bastard, this is for you. I hope you’re proud.”
