What we have here is really your classic good news-bad news situation. The good news is that Cate Blanchett has adopted a brand new baby; the bad news it that the beloved actress still stubbornly refuses to adopt you.
Various sources report that Blanchett and her husband Andrew Upton flew home to Sydney from the US with their new bundle of joy on Wednesday of last week.
In place of a boy (she already has three), Blanchett has adopted a girl, not dark, but beautiful and terrible as the morn, treacherous as the seas, stronger than the foundations of the earth.
The baby will be a sister to Blanchett and Upton’s other children, 13-year-old Dashiell, 10-year-old Roman and 6-year-old Ignatius. All shall love her and despair.
[UPDATE: Blanchett’s people have confirmed her new daughter’s name is Edith Vivian Patricia Upton. Can you even? We didn’t think so].

Sydney residents, you’d better soak up Blanchett’s golden rays while you can. She has announced that she and Upton will be relocating to the US when his term as director of the Sydney Theatre Company wraps up.
