UK Bans “Distressing” Spotify Ad Feat. Camila Cabello’s ‘Havana’ & A Demon Doll

There’s simply no beacon of light on earth greater than Camila Cabello. Period.

A force of good, a bringer of joy and a conduit of rainbows and smiles, more so than the cake that the chick who broke into the Mean Girls high school wanted to bake.

That’s why it comes as such a shock that an ad involving Cabello’s 10/10 BOP ‘Havana’ was banned in the UK.

The commercial in question is for Spotify‘s “killer songs you can’t resist” and upon closer inspection, it is low-key freaky as furk.

In the 1-minute clip, three friends are having breakfast while listening to their wake up playlist which happens to include ‘Havana’.

Every time the song plays, a demonic-looking doll rises, scaring the living shite out of the roommates and frankly myself, too.

The commercial follows a horror movie format with the doll terrorising the roommates to the beat of the track, including one scene where the girl is in the shower and the doll appears behind her (an obvi nod to Psycho).

Watch it below with caution:

The UK’s ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) has labeled the ad as “distressing,” Billboard reports.

A Spotify spokesperson has since addressed the controversy directly in a statement:

“We acknowledge the ruling from the ASA and regret any distress the ad may have caused the complainant. It was created as a tongue-in-cheek horror parody — intended to be a humorous ad that demonstrated just how catchy some tracks can be. We take our responsibilities as a marketer very seriously and continue to be mindful of the ASA’s guidance on the effective and appropriate targeting of advertising campaigns.”

Cabello has yet to comment on the drama involving her song but considering she has been v. vocal in the past about hating horror films, I’m thinking she’d be too scared to even check the video out for clarification.
