Buy Baz Luhrmann’s $15m Mansion In Darlinghurst

Are you Jay Gatsby rich and looking for a Cribs-worthy bachelor pad in East Sydney? (CC: Leonardo DiCaprio).

Iona – the historic 30 room mega mansion owned by Baz Luhrmann and production designer wife Catherine Martin – is now on the market for somewhere in the vicinity of $15m.

The couple, who had previously rented the most extravagant abode in Darlinghurst for nine years before eventually purchasing it for $10m in 2006, shared the home with their children Lillian, 9, and William, 7, who lived upstairs, and used the ground floor as headquarters for Luhrmann’s production company, Bazmark.

The filmmaker’s real estate agents vehemently deny reports that the property was sold to counteract significant personal investments made by the couple after studio Warner Bros refused to extend the $127 million budget allocated to the film’s production, effectively delaying its release to a time when Luhrmann could adequately self fund and re-shoot scenes he thought were essential to his vision of the movie.

Instead, the couple’s representative’s attribute the sale to a desire to separate home life and work life, something they hope to achieve by living in Vaucluse or Watsons Bay and setting up offices “in a warehouse somewhere”.

LOL rich people.
