‘Broad City’ Kweens Break Shipper Hearts, Say They (Probs) Won’t Hook Up

After charging through nearly every sexual encounter available to young humans in the 21st Century, Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer have apparently found the final, taboo: havin’ a crack at each other.

In a panel talk yesterday for the Tribeca Film Festival (how New York can these people get, holy shit) the bona fide kweens confirmed pegging others just another day at the orifice office, but pushing the bond of friendship is a total no-go… for now.

Says Ilana:

“We’ve been getting asked a lot lately, like ‘Are they gonna fuck?’ over and over again. So much lately, right?

… I think that they are married already in the way that they need to be right now. I think also I’m pretty sure they’re not going to hook up because it’s just Ilana’s love of Abbi is just that part of friendship that we all experience, right?

I think it’s just an aspect of their friendship that will always be there.”

And Abbi:

“Yeah, something about that would ruin – I don’t think it would ruin their friendship, but it would almost ruin the amazing friendship that I feel like Ilana and I actually have and the characters.”

From there, they hit on the crux of basically every single Millennial sitcom – the tension between being a thing, and, well, being a real thing. Ilana laid it out as “part of the setting of the show rather than a plot point. It’s this feeling that’s always going to be there in the show.”

If you’re super invested in their on-screen minglings (and you should be), you’ll know this viewpoint is kinda recent. Last year, Ilana spouted  “my friends are the sexiest people I know, right? They’re the smartest, coolest, hottest people I’ve ever met.

So I think it’s a mentality of fucking your friends. And also, like, big deal.”
