Somebody alert Dad because there’s a new streaming service hitting Australia today and it’s got all of the British classics that you probably grew up watching.
Britbox – BBC and ITV’s streaming service – debuts in Australia today, bringing the likes of Doctor Who, Mr Bean, Midsomer Murders and Victoria to our screens, among countless others.
The new streaming service is launching on Monday to coincide with International Doctor Who Day, so you can binge-watch all five million seasons of the hit series and do absolutely nothing else.
Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, they’ve also got a BritBox Original reboot of Spitting Image that includes an incredibly cursed puppet version of our very own Scott Morrison. Trust me, if you thought he was already terrifying enough in his Cronulla Sharks scarf, you’re in for quite a treat.
Seriously, it’s nightmare fuel.
“We feel we’re a little bit different in that we obviously have wonderful shareholders in BBC and ITV who have really great, rich catalogues for us to dig deeply into and find those hidden gems or those fan favourites as well as being able to offer territory premieres and exclusives,” Britbox Australia manager Moira Hogan told News.com.au.
“What we’ve done is really focus on being able to offer complete seasons of really iconic shows. That’s where we’ll maintain our point of difference.
Basically, BritBox is here to hit you in the face with the nostalgia feels of waking up at 7am on a Saturday morning to watch Doctor Who re-runs.
“We know Australians in particular have a fondness for British content, especially British crime drama and comedy content. There’s a strong heritage in Australia. I can certainly remember growing up and plunking down in front of the TV and watching really great British series as a kid,” Hogan said.
BritBox will set you back $8.99 per month, or $89.99 per year if you pay upfront. Alternatively, there’s a seven-day free trial if you just want to quickly binge-watch Doctor Who.
