Bra Boys Pitch Billy Madison TV Show

As stated previously, I like The Beach more than the beach so was only vaguely aware of the Bra Boys, a Maroubra-based surf gang, until I watched their self-produced 2007 documentary Bra Boys: Blood is Thicker than Water. Despite its self-serving nature, the Russell Crowe narrated documentary became a sleeper hit and since that time I’ve watched the brotherhood’s transition from little-known beach thugs to media superstars with keen interest. Seriously, they’ve got like a thousand things going on.

Aside from the documentary, the brothers Abberton have also founded clothing line MyBrothersKeeper, been the subject of a Sean Doherty penned biography The Official Bra Boys Story: My Brothers Keeper, graced Harper’s BAZZAR’s as part of an Australian icons spread and buddied up with Good Charlotte. Now, according to news.com.au, the Bra Boys’ latest foray into the media world will be a fly on the wall reality television series detailing their day-to-day lives.

In a recent interview Sunny Abberton revealed that the Sydney surf-collective had been offered television programs in the past but declined due to timing issues. “But at the moment” he continued “We’re looking at some creative angles and have been pitching it up around the place. There has been a bit of interest…Everyone has seen our tough side so we want to show our more humorous side. Just everyday kind of stuff.”

This humourous side, according to news.com.au, may involve putting grade 9 dropout Koby “in a classroom of 15-year-old kids” which was hilarious in Billy Madison but pretty sad in this case because, you know, it’s real life. We’ll keep you updated as details of what may well be the most unintentionally hilarious television show of all time come to light.
