Blake Lively Returns To Instagram To Tease Us With “What Happened To Emily?”

You gotta hand it to the marketing team behind A Simple Favor: one delete of Blake Lively‘s Instagram and I am deeply invested in this movie.

Lively returned to Instagram today to drop a teaser for the upcoming film, in which she plays the enigmatic Emily Nelson, who disappears on day leaving her best friend Stephanie [Anna Kendrick], a “mummy vlogger”, to find her.

It’s written and helmed by comedy legend Paul Feig, so we have high hopes for this one.

Clacking along in Louboutins, putting the finishing touches on a Martini at daylight-o’clock in the afternoon, almost-but-not-quite making out with her hot husband… it appears that Lively is back in the role she was born to play: the entrancing but jealousy-inducing lead girl to your best friend.

“She’s an enigma, my wife,” says her husband Sean (played by Henry Golding) in the teaser. “You get close to her, but you never quite reach her.”

Yesterday, Lively captivated the world when she nuked her entire Instagram – posts, profile pic, followers, gone – and instead started following just 36 people, all named Emily Nelson.

We slid into the DMs of all 36 Emilys, and most of them – the ones that got back to us, anyway – said they thought it was a joke, or Lively had been hacked, or it was just some bot trying to get attention. (Then Lively slid into their DMs.)

A Simple Favor is out in the US on September 14; we’ll keep you updated with an Australian release.
