These past 24 hours, Australia has been rocked to its very core by the cold, hard truth that a reality dating competition maybe isn’t actually the most solid place to go looking for everlasting love.
Yesterday, news broke about the shock, real-life split of Bachelor Blake Garvey and his lady love Sam Frost, just hours after his South African proposal aired in the show’s pre-taped finale.
Now, in an absolutely stunning bit of cross-promotion for Chanel Ten, it has been confirmed that the couple will open up and tell all about their split – in separate interviews, natch – on Monday night’s episode of The Project.
Chanel Ten has canceled all media appearances for the pair, and has revealed very little of the interviews to air Monday, other than a brief clip of Frost saying “what a jackass.”
Since Garvey and fiance Frost split, rumours have begun to spread about just why this perfect couple – who met in the most contrived of circumstances and paraded their airbrushed courtship for TV cameras – didn’t work out.
An anonymous source called “Andrea” – because where would this story be without an anonymous source called Andrea? – called Southern Cross Austereo before the finale aired, claiming to have “inside information” about how another bachelorette was knocked up.
Frost’s fellow contestant Lisa Hyde became the focus of these secret pregnancy rumours – rumours so vile and scurrilous that the Melbourne Goddamn Age actually ran a whole piece on how they’re not true.
The normally staid and sensible Sydney Morning Herald joined the pile-on late yesterday, with a scathing editorial accusing Garvey of being a “love rat” who only appeared on the show to stroke his ego. Safe to say, everyone hates Blake right now.
Whatever happens on Monday night’s Project, Channel Ten – who have had a rough year with the cancellation of Wake Up and the gutting of their news division – are onto a guaranteed ratings winner, and are probably patting themselves on the back pretty hard right now.
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT? WHAT BOMBSHELLS WILL BLAKE AND SAM DROP? WHO IS THE JACKASS? IS IT GARVEY? IS IT FROST HERSELF, FOR BELIEVING HIS LIES? We can’t take the suspense, you guys.
