‘Blade Runner’ Star Sean Young Wanted By NYPD For Alleged Burglary

There are reports this weekend that troubled film star Sean Young, most famous for her role as the replicant Rachael in the ’80s sci-fi classic Blade Runner, is wanted by the NYPD in connection with an alleged burglary.

According to the New York Times, police wish to question the actress over the alleged theft of two Apple laptops and some video production equipment from a premises in AstoriaQueens, where it is understood she had been working.

Surveillance footage from Thursday of this week shows Young and a male companion entering the premises at around midday and taking the items, estimated to be valued at around $US12,000. The actress had reportedly been fired from the gig “months ago.”

In a statement to People, Sean Young herself denied the reports, saying she has not been contacted by police or lawyers regarding the alleged burglary, calling the entire incident a misunderstanding. The actress wrote:

I was scheduled to retrieve my belongings from an apartment where I had been previously staying while working together with [Charlie Boy] Director Timothy Hines and Producer Dominick Martini. I was expected and had confirmed my expected arrival with the building’s owner.

When I arrived nobody was there to receive me but the door was unlocked and I assumed it had been left open so that I could pick up my belongings. I gathered what I believed to be my property but later discovered I was mistaken. I have contacted Dominick Martini to arrange for the 2 laptops to be returned and to pick up my 2 laptops at their earliest convenience.

Young’s post-Blade Runner career has been beset with difficulties. She lost a high-profile role in Tim Burton‘s Batman after an injury, and had her part in Oliver Stone‘s Wall Street drastically cut after on-set disagreements with co-star Charlie Sheen.

She battled alcoholism for many years, even appearing on Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew at one point, and faced a misdemeanour battery charge after an incident in which she allegedly slapped a security guard at a 2012 Oscars after-party.

Sean Young is credited as one of the stars of last year’s Blade Runner 2049, although her scenes were filmed with a stand-in, with the film’s special effects crew using photographs and old film to reconstruct a CGI version of her younger self for a key scene.

She can currently be seen in the Netflix series The Alienist, based on the Caleb Carr novel about the hunt for a serial killer in 19th century New York.
