Season 5 Of ‘Black Mirror’ Is Still On The Way, Despite ‘Bandersnatch’

At a frankly staggering 312 minutes in total, you’d absolutely forgive Netflix and show producers for putting the cue in the rack on Black Mirror after the absurdly ambitious Bandersnatch. But, as it turns out, they’re really only just getting started.

The drop of the interactive, choose-your-own-adventure movie on Friday sent fans into an absolute fit; pouring over the movie’s wildly disparate plot paths and various endings. But soon after the question had to be asked: Was this the show’s much-talked about fifth season in its entirety? Is season five of Black Mirror really just one long-ass episode with a bunch of different endings? Is that what they’re doing instead of a full fifth season?

As it turns out: Nope.

According to reports this morning, Netflix bosses are still pushing ahead with a fully fledged fifth season of the show. Bandersnatch exists as a standalone film version of the critically acclaimed series.

Per Buzzfeed‘s UK TV editor Scott Bryan, the fifth season of Black Mirror is scheduled to arrive on Netflix at some point in 2019.

So there you bloody well go.

Of course, that doesn’t help any of us in terms of specific release dates or anything like that. And it certainly doesn’t help us with regards to what we might actually see as part of the upcoming season.

But at the very least: There’s 365 days in 2019. Black Mirror season 5 arrives on one of them. That ain’t bad. That ain’t too bad at all.
