Netflix Issues Official Warning After Dangerous ‘Bird Box’ Challenge Goes Viral

Bird Box

One must wonder if Netflix‘s record-breaking thriller flick Bird Box would have been quite as popular had it not been for social media as the memes and chatter surrounding the film have gone viral since it first dropped in 2018.

But while there’s no harm in laughing at a meme here or there, there is harm in blindfolding yourself and walking into oncoming traffic as part of the Bird Box Challenge.

Yep folks, that’s actually a thing. We live in a society where some fools will film themselves attempting daily tasks while blindfolded for the sake of a like or a retweet.

Have a squiz at #BirdBoxChallenge on Twitter and see how seriously deluded some people are. There are videos of punters ending up in traffic, falling over and some even putting their young children in danger by forcing them to take part.

The challenge has gotten so out of hand that the peeps at Netflix felt the need to put out an official warning so that people don’t “end up in hospital” and seriously fools, please heed their message.

“Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.”
