Bendigo’s Mayor Insists The Town Is Nothing Like That ‘Rick & Morty’ Parody

The mayor of Bendigo is fairly stoked with an influx attention the Australian town is receiving after it was featured in an animated short that aired on Adult Swim over the weekend.

Bushland Adventures was created by Aussie animator, Michael Cusack, and is essentially a piss-take on Rick & Morty staring Reek and Mordi. The whole thing is absolutely wild and if you haven’t already seen it, I suggest you go here immediately.

Cusack is best known for his popular cartoons, ‘Damo and Darren‘ and ‘YOLO‘.

Adult Swim played the cartoon in a loop on April 1 as some kind of fucked up April Fools gag, which, if you ask me, is funny as hell. The parody follows the animated duo on a journey to Bendigo to collect Reek’s “green cube”. While the classic Rick & Morty series is no stranger to fucked up shit, Cusack’s take is honestly some next level gear. I really can’t stress that enough.

As you can imagine, folks outside of Australia were pretty perplexed by the whole thing, sending Google searches for “Bendigo” fucking skyrocketing minutes after airing.

“In some ways I guess any publicity is good publicity,” Bendigo mayor, Margaret O’Rourke, told Guardian Australia. “Bendigo is a very vibrant and beautiful place and nothing like what has been displayed.”

“People would know by those searches that Bendigo is nothing like what’s in the parody.”

According to Cusack, who has never even been to Bendigo, he chose to include the town purely for its name. “For some reason, Bendigo sounded funny to me, I don’t know what it is, but it’s something behind that name, that it seemed right to use, so I went with it,” he told the ABC.

Rick & Morty creator, Dan Harmon, recently scared the shit out of fans by revealing that a fourth season is yet to be ordered by a network. While it sounds like bad news, the team is likely just negotiating the contract.

In the meantime, I’ll take a whole season of Bushland Adventures, please.
