Beloved ‘Star Trek’ Actor Leonard Nimoy Has Died, Aged 83

Beloved actor Leonard Nimoy, best known for his portrayal of Spock in the original Star Trek TV series and subsequent movies, has passed away at the age of 83.

Nimoy, who had been battling chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, died at his Los Angeles home on Friday morning. His final Tweet, sent out Monday, saw the actor reflecting on his life:

Tributes are already pouring in for the actor, with co-star William Shatner saying “I loved him like a brother. We will all miss his humour, his talent, and his capacity to love.”

George Takei mourned the loss of a great man and friend. “We return you now to the stars, Leonard. You taught us to ‘Live Long And Prosper,’ and you indeed did, friend. I shall miss you in so many, many ways.”
Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in the current films, said: “My heart is broken. I love you profoundly my dear friend. and I will miss you everyday. may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
Even U.S. President Barack Obama observed Nimoy’s passing, saying “I loved Spock” on Friday.
Nimoy played the logic-loving Vulcan Spock in the 1960s Star Trek TV series, six movies and Star Trek: The Animated Series, and made guest appearances in Star Trek: The Next Generation and the J.J. Abrams‘ reboot of the series.
