‘Big Brother’ Germany To Break The COVID-19 News To Housemates In Live TV Special

While our Big Brother contestants, who were previously in the dark about the coronavirus outbreak, have been quietly informed about the pandemic, Germany’s contestants are reportedly still completely unaware of what’s going on.

The Guardian reports that the show’s producers defended their decision not to inform the housemates about the outbreak, telling the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung that the information blackout would only be lifted in extreme circumstances, such as an illness or death in the family.

However, following backlash from fans online, it has been announced that the housemates will be informed about the crisis live during an upcoming episode.

The publication reports they will be given the opportunity to ask questions about the state of the nation, as well as receive video messages from their relatives.

Seems like a distasteful move for producers to make the coronavirus part of the storyline, but there is precedent for it in Big Brother history.

In 2001, the producers of Big Brother US interrupted the show’s second season to tell the final three contestants about 9/11 as one of the remaining contenders had a cousin who was missing (and was ultimately confirmed dead).
