‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ Cops An R Rating, Which Is Fucking Great News

Holy crapballs, Batman!!!

‘Batman: The Killing Joke‘, Warner Bros‘ direct-to-video animated film, has just earned itself an R rating – the first DC Universe Original Movie to do so.

Out of the several dozen of these films already in existence – which are already aimed at a more adult audience than the rest of the DC universe – only two have scraped by with a PG rating: All-Star Superman and Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.

“The Killing Joke is revered by the fans, particularly for its blunt, often-shocking adult themes and situations,” said president of Warner Bros. Animation & Warner Digital Series Sam Register in a statement. “We felt it was our responsibility to present our core audience – the comics-loving community – with an animated film that authentically represented the tale they know so well.”

Fuuuuuuuuckin’ A.

Amongst the many, many Batman films ’round the joint at the ‘mo, this is the one starring Luke Skywalker / Mark Hamill as the Joker, who captures and taunts Batgirl (Tara Strong) to taunt Batman (Kevin Conroy).

And now we sure as shit can’t wait for it.

Batman: The Killing Joke will premier at Comic-Con this July, then be released straight to DVD and Blu-ray later this year.
