Aziz Ansari, Parks & Rec Creator, Netflix Teaming Up For New Comedy Series

Netflix is straight killing it in the two-oh-one-five, y’all.
Aziz Ansari‘s long-standing partnership with the streaming giant – who have produced and distributed three stand up specials for the comedian, including the recent Live at Madison Square Garden – is now paying even more dividends and moving into scripted territory, with news emerging that a 10 episode comedy series is in the works.
What’s more, Ansari’s old buddies at Parks & Recreation are getting on board to help develop. Former Parks & Rec writer Alan Yang is co-creating the series with Ansari, and will serve as an executive producer alongside Parks & Rec creator Michael Schur.
If that in and of itself isn’t enough to gift you a serious case of the keen – and if it isn’t, seriously, check your damned pulse – the show has already assembled an absolute banger of a cast.
Ansari will star in the series, which will also feature the voice of Archer and Bob Belcher in H. Jon Benjamin, as well as Bob’s Burgers writer Kelvin Yu, the Eric half of Tim & Eric in Eric Wareheim, Lena Waithe, and SNL regular Noel Wells.
The title and premise of the show is being kept under tight wraps by Netflix, although the long-standing rumour is that it will loosely revolve around Ansari’s life.
The show is being produced by Universal Television, via Schur’s company Fremulon and 3 Arts – the same producing team behind both Parks & Rec and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
No word yet on when the show will see the light of day. But given the calibre of people involved, it’s safe to say we’re all in pretty good hands.
