The events of the fourth Avengers film, Endgame, are a highly-guarded secret. Seriously, we’d probably have more of a chance of strolling into Area 51 than into a room containing the full script for Avengers: Endgame.
We already knew that spoiler-happy Tom Holland was only given his own lines and had no concept of how the events of the film played out, even as he shot it. But now directing duo the Russo Brothers have confirmed that no one got a full script, except of course the OG Marvel hero, Robert Downey Jr.
In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Joe and Anthony Russo justify why the events of the film are so closely guarded… by, er, being even more mysterious. Honestly, how have these guys not cracked yet? They must go home and scream the entire screenplay into a pillow each night, seriously.
Anyway, Joe told Rotten Tomatoes that “RDJ [Robert Downey Jr.] was probably the only one to actually read the entire script. I think Benedict [Cumberbatch] got the script that included his scenes only. Maybe [Chris] Evans might have read the script?”
His brother Anthony points out that the point of doing that is so the cast don’t have to scream into a pillow after each interview, saying: “Part of our motivation to do that is it just takes a lot of pressure off of people. It is hard to constantly censor yourself about what you’re saying, how you talk.”
He adds: “These movies are your whole life, it’s everything you’re doing all day long. The inclination is to talk about it. So we take a lot of pressure off of people by just saying, OK, the less you know the less you have to mind yourself.”
Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo, these comments seem directly squarely at you, no?
Joe goes on to point out that:
[Chris] Hemsworth’s character, Thor, doesn’t need to know what Captain America’s doing for most of Infinity War. Hemsworth reads his scenes and Evans reads his scenes. If they don’t read the rest of the movie, they don’t know what’s going on with it, then it makes [it] easier to have conversations with people. [We] kept it going, even more so in Endgame. [There are] more secrets in Endgame than there are in Infinity War.

The movie is out next week, so all will be revealed then and in even better news, the Russos / RDJ can finally stop giving themselves tension headaches from withholding all this information.
