Aussie Film And Cast Garners Praise At Sundance

First time director Kieran Darcy-Smith of Blue-Tongue Films opened this year’s Sundance Film Festival with his debut feature film Wish You Were Here. Already, film critics are responding positively to the continent-spanning thriller which stars a terrific Australian cast of Joel Edgerton, Teresa Palmer and Darcy-Smith’s wife Felicity Price, with whom he co-wrote the screenplay.

Here’s a selection of the reviews so far:

The Hollywood Reporter : “Anchored by a riveting performance from rising star Joel Edgerton (Warrior), Australian director Kieran Darcy-Smith’s debut feature maintains a vice-like grip that reaches maximum intensity as the mystery is solved.”

Flixist “Wish You Were Here is a positively gorgeous film. It’s shot from the perspective of a voyeur always looming in the distance, but it never sacrifices showing off its scenic locales. Yet, the editing, performances, and cinematography always demand that your eyes never wander too far into the distance.”

Movie Line “Still, the performances are so uniformly impressive that they often overshadow the plot machinations… a beautifully made but flawed directorial debut for Darcy-Smith and certainly an acting showcase for its cast.”

Variety: “Wish You Were Here is the incandescent feature debut of helmer Kieran Darcy-Smith, and a rare kind of showcase for leads Joel Edgerton and co-writer Felicity Price… Taut construction, deft acting and a gift for keeping auds off balance will make this Aussie drama a winner in offshore release and a springboard for its veteran screenwriter-cum-director.”

More well-earned buzz for the exceptionally talented bunch from Blue-Tongue.
