Aussie Actors Score At Teen Choice Awards

The Australian contingent in young Hollywood scored at yesterday’s Teen Choice Awards with Sam Worthington, Mia Wasikowska and Liam Hemsworth picking up wins.

With categories like ‘Choice Movie Liplock’ and ‘Choice TV Parental Unit’ It’s not like the Teen Choice Awards are a keen indication of who will be snapping up the major gongs come Oscar season, as it’s more of a ceremony celebrating youthful Hollywood babes where the number of awards won have a strong positive correlation to the number of buff shirtless dudes onscreen (Twilight: New Moon scored ten gongs) because screaming teen girls make up the majority of voters; but, regardless, we still like to give props when Aussie expats do us proud Stateside.

Mia Wasikowska won the ‘Choice Movie Fight’ for her smackdown against The Jabberwocky in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Former Summer Bay resident and current Miley Cyrus manbag Liam Hemsworth won ‘Choice Movie Male Breakout’ for The Last Song, and Sam Worthington won the award for ‘Choice Movie Actor Sci-Fi’ for his role in Avatar. He has come a long way since Bootmen.

Justin Bieber was also in attendance to lend his urban cred to the red carpet., having recovered from getting conked in the head by a water bottle. In the dictionary the word ‘conk’ also means: a hairstyle in which the hair is straightened, usually by chemical means. How weirdly apt is that?
