Audrey Tatou To Star In Next Michel Gondry Film

After being left underwhelmed by Michel Gondry‘s surprisingly unoriginal approach to blockbusting superhero movie with The Green Hornet we wondered what the French filmmaker’s next feature film project would be: another attempt at a mainstream moneymaker or a return to his surrealist indie roots? We’re pleased to hear it is likely the latter after Gondry revealed to the New York Times that he’s planning a French-language film which will star flawless Amelie actress Audrey Tautou.

When in Cannes last week for the 2011 Cannes Film Festival Gondry told the Times he convinced Tautou to join the project with a personalised animated short he made just just for her. “I have a little Bolex camera,” he said. “You crank to rewind it, and you shoot film – 16 millimeter. I’m doing a lot of short film in different subject. When I wanted to convince [Audrey Tautou] to be part of my next project, I did an animation of me asking her with flowers and things, and flying, and sky.” Uh pretty sure I’d marry a stranger who did such a thing for me (if it weren’t for the fact they were clearly an unhinged stalker).

The pairing of Gondry’s unique vision and the vision that is Audrey Tautou should make for a movie that is, at the very least, fabulous looking.
