Watch Ariana Grande Perform ‘Natural Woman’ At Aretha Franklin’s Funeral

Queen of soul and music legend Aretha Franklin was farewelled overnight in a ceremony at the Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, and one of the many who paid tribute was Ariana Grande, who performed the singer’s 1967 hit ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman‘.

Grande was welcomed to the podium by Bishop Charles H. Ellis III, who said of her “she’s an icon herself!”, after joking that he first thought her name was a new addition to the Taco Bell menu. Her fiance Pete Davidson watched from the audience as she belted out the classic single.

The singer departed the stage saying “we love you, Aretha!” Gwendolyn Quinn, a relative of the departed music legend, later told reporters that Aretha was “very fond of” Ariana Grande.

Other performers at the star-studded event included Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill, Chaka Khan, Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia Barrino, while Al SharptonJesse Jackson and Bill and Hilary Clinton were also there to pay tribute.

Former president Barack Obama could not be there, but he sent a letter, saying in part:

“From a young age, Aretha Franklin rocked the world of anyone who had the pleasure of hearing her voice. Whether bringing people together through a thrilling intersection of genres or advancing important causes through the power of song, Aretha’s work reflected the very best of our American story – in all of its hope and heart, its boldness and its unmistakable beauty.”

Franklin died at home in Detroit on August 16, at the age of 76. R.I.P.
