‘Aquaman’ Is Now Officially The Biggest Movie In The DC Extended Universe

Aquaman

For the longest time, an Aquaman movie seemed like a dumb idea – who would want to see a superhero film about a guy who talks to fish, aside from Vincent Chase, who was always bloody going on about it in Entourage?

As it turns out, a lot of people were very keen to see Aquaman, so much so that it’s now officially the highest-grossing DC Extended Universe movie at the global box office, surpassing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in ticket sales.

This weekend, Warner Bros proudly announced that the film has made a cool $887 million world-wide, handily beating the $873 million made by Batman v Superman, with the bulk of that money coming from countries outside the US.

China, for instance, has gone absolutely bloody nuts for Jason Momoa‘s rig, and the film has made $279 million there, making it the biggest superhero movie ever in the country, behind Avengers: Infinity War

In Australia, where it was shot, the film has made $11 million in just over a week of release, a number that will definitely be higher after this weekend.

All this means that we’ll definitely be seeing Aquaman sequels coming our way, presumably along with video games, Funko Pop toys and any other merchandising opportunity that Warners and DC can possibly think of. I for one welcome our new aquatic overlord.
