‘Aquaman’ Has Already Out-Earned ‘Justice League’ In Just Its Second Weekend

What do superhero fans love more than Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman? Aquaman and the absence of all those other people, apparently. According to the numbers on Box Office Mojo, the exceptionally wet superhero film Aquaman (starring delightful slab of beef Jason Momoa) has already beat out Justice League for worldwide box office revenue in just its second weekend.

Justice League, which was definitely a real movie that screened at theatres and is presumably available for purchase as both physical and streaming media, netted just shy of $US659 million over a 17-week total. Aquaman, just finishing up its second weekend, has made a reported $US665 million both in the US and also the other places.

Its relative success might have something to do with DC finally taking a foray into making a movie that is perfectly happy to have fun for the sake of being fun, instead of rehashing the same grim, self-serious, dark nonsense they’ve been repeating over and over in the background while Marvel has been running around in the foreground firing colourful lasers into the air to the sound of delightful 80s synths and Fleetwood Mac.

Aquaman is still going in cinemas and there’s never been a better time to sneak a few beers in and watch some fish business.
