Anthony Hopkins And Scarlett Johansson Star In ‘Hitchcock’ Trailer

A cosmetically-assisted Anthony Hopkins is angling for another Best Actor Oscar nod with his performance as the titular auteur in Hitchcock, directed by Sacha Gervasi. The first trailer has surfaced today and has been edited, quite cleverly, to mirror the uneven atmosphere of suspense that Hitchcock’s movies were famous for.

Hitchcock focuses on the director’s struggle to bring his legendary suspense thriller/horror Psycho to the big screen with the help of wife Alma Reville (played by the always tremendous Helen Mirren, regarded as one of THOSE great women behind every great man.

In bringing the movie (that would garner four Academy Award nominations) to life, Hitchcock had to overcome several attempts by the film studio, Paramount, to put a stalemate on the project because the subject matter wasn’t commercially viable (which would prove a massively inaccurate forecast after Psycho broke box office records around the world).

In the movie Scarlett Johansson plays Janet Leigh, the actress who, in Psycho, meets her untimely end in the movie’s infamous shower scene. The impressive supporting cast members include Danny Huston, Toni Collette, Jessica Biel, and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Hitchcock hits theatres on November 23, 2012, which should place it in firm contention for Oscar recognition, with both Mirren and Hopkins fair chances for lead acting nods.
