Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess Star In ‘Blue Valentine: 2’?

Twenty Years. Two People. That is the tagline for the movie One Day starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess that is due for release in July of this year.

The synopsis goes: Adapted from the internationally praised bestselling novel, One Day charts an extraordinary relationship. Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess) meet on the night of their college graduation – July 15th, 1988. She is a working-class girl of principle and ambition who dreams of making the world a better place. He is a wealthy charmer who dreams that the world will be his playground. For the next two decades, every July 15th reveals to us how “Em” and “Dex” are faring, as their friendship ebbs and flows with the passing of the years.

Through laughter and romance, heartbreak and exhilaration, they experience the grandeur of life. Somewhere along their journey, these two people realize that what they are searching and hoping for has been there for them all along.

That sounds kinda similar to Blue Valentine. If the movie posters are a good indication of what films are really like, One Day is going to be a LOT like Blue Valentine. Observe the two below. They’ve both got that washed out, blue filter vibe. The angle of shot on their bodies is very similar in both images, and even the positioning of the embrace – the arms, etc. And Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway are wearing the same boots.

It’s no big deal because everyone knows that’s the archetypal pose/setting for any relationship-drama press shot:

Danish filmmaker Lone Scherfig (An Education) directed the movie which is based on the 2009 novel of the same name by English writer David Nicholls, who adapted the book into a screenplay for the movie. Basically it’s a love story, but beneath the surface the story is really about loneliness, wasted ambition, fate and timing, and regret. It’s a sad story.

One Day opens July 8 in the US but an Australian release date is yet to be announced.
