Anne Hathaway, James Franco Bring Youth Appeal To Oscars

Most memorable (to me) as Meryl Streep’s little bitch in The Devil Wears Prada, Anne Hathaway (28) will host the Oscar Awards next February alongside Pineapple Express stoner babe James Franco (32). With a aggregate age lower than Steve Martin (65) one of the hosts of the 2010 broadcast, producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer are looking to tee up some younger audience appeal.

They describe Hathaway and Franco as ‘the next generation of Hollywood icons- fresh, exciting and multi-talented’ and anticipate the pair will ‘create an Oscar broadcast that will both showcase their incredible talents and entertain the world’. Possible, sure.

This tactic could also be veiled by another motivation: the fact Franco is a main contender in taking out an award for his role in Danny Boyle’s latest offering 127 hours, and Hathaway… well, her newest project, Love & Other Drugs looks brutal, but for Oscar’s 2009 opening number she sang and danced alongside host Hugh Jackman and into the hearts of… wait. Who exactly is Anne Hathaway popular with? Oh forget it.

So maybe it’ll make for an exciting little show if the genetically-blessed Franco is hosting and wins, but his counterpart and the Miss Teen USA bleating/rambling way of speaking she has going on is kind of irritating, innit?

Does anyone know what the hell she was talking about right there?

Bring back Billy Crystal, king of the opening medley. Now that’s showbiz.
