Andrew Denton Laments The Logies, Prefers Life Behind The Camera

Tim Burrowes, custodian of media and marketing blog Mumbrella recently sat down with Zapruder’s Other Films founders Andrew Denton and Anita Jacoby to discuss the duo’s unlikely love affair with advertising, the experiment that was Hungry Beast, the genesis of The Gruen Transfer, the curious ways in which the internet has changed media consumption and what it takes to make great television.

It’s a great interview (especially the part where Denton jokingly tells Burrowes to “get fucked”) but the video’s most pertinent moment comes courtesy of Denton who laments the backward looking ethos of the “Logie microcosm”: “With due respect to the late and the living Graham Kennedy and Bert Newton, I’m sick to fucking death of hearing them eulogized every Logies. They were 30 years ago. They were great. We’ve said they’re great every year for 30 years. We’ve had so much fantastic talent appear since then. When are we going to pass the torch and say you know what? We’ve had really good stuff happen 20 years ago, 10 years ago, this year.

Also, we might never see Denton in front of camera again unless a lucrative Dancing With The Stars contract materializes out of the ether. Watch below.
