Amy Schumer Had To Change Her Kid’s Name Because She Didn’t Realise It Sounded Like “Genital”

Amy Schumer has discussed officially changing her child’s name after realising it sounded remarkably like… genital. No, this is not drill. Genital.

Amy recently spoke about the whole debacle on her podcast, 3 Girls, 1 Keith. “Do you guys know that Gene – our baby’s name – is officially changed?” she asked her fellow podcasters. “It’s now Gene David Fischer. It was Gene Attell Fischer but we realised that we, by accident, named our son ‘genital’.”

Trainwreck co-star Claudia O’Doherty, who hosts the podcast with Amy, then chimed in, recounting the moment her own mother pointed out the whole genitalia vibe.

“My mom pointed that out to me, actually,” she said. “My mum was like, “Amy’s called her son genital.”” Mood.

Many folks rightly questioned whether the naming of “Gene Attell” was a hoax or not but, judging by this latest exchange, it seems like Gene’s unfortunate middle name was just an innocent blunder. How no-one at the time picked up on the fact that “Gene Attell” absolutely sounded like “genital” is beyond me, but I digress.

Blessed Gene is now 11 months old, and punters are still going back to the original name announcement on Instagram from last May to see if Amy has sneakily amended the caption. She has not.

Although Gene Attell is no longer Gene Attell, may his iconic legacy live on forever.

And here’s a wise piece of advice for future parents – say your kid’s proposed name out loud a couple times before stamping them with something that resembles ‘genital’.
