Amy Schumer Does What She Wants In The First Trailer For ‘Trainwreck’

Amy Schumer is absolutely crushing it right now. With her beyond-hilarious stand-up career exploding, and the bloody excellent sketch show Inside Amy Schumer doing gangbusters for Comedy Central (and boy howdy, if you’re not already watching it, you should start immediately) it seemed a matter of time before the leap to the big screen was made.
Thus, we have this. The first trailer for Trainwreck, the film that Schumer herself wrote. And be damned if it doesn’t look totally hilarious as well.
With Judd Apatow on board to both produce and direct, the film definitely appears to sit well within the Apatow Productions wheelhouse, albeit with gender roles reversed in a not-even-remotely-subtle way. Whether that’s a reaction to the prevailing “overgrown man-children” criticism that runs through most of Apatow’s productions remains to be seen.
Still, if you can ignore the voiceover – including the fairly hokey “I’m just a modern chick who does what she wants” line (*shudders*) – there are definite laughs to be had here. Schumer, as always, is a damned good performer, and there’s something devilishly magnificent about the stereotypical “best friend of the love interest” character/comedic foil being the actual LeBron James.
Bonus points apply for falling out of your chair like I did when you realise the British woman at about 1:16 is Tilda Freaking Swinton.
Trainwreck comes out on July 17th this year.
The stacked and excellent cast features Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, Tilda SwintonLeBron James, John Cena, Brie Larson, Colin Quinn, Mike Birbiglia, Jon “Jeremy Jamm” Glaser, Daniel Radcliffe, Marisa Tomei, Method Man and a heap of others.
Strap on your chuckle hats, kids. This looks like it could be a bunch of fun.
