Merry Christmas; sneakers are still a thing.
If you needed proof, just check out the land of Uncle Sam, where thousands of ballistic Americans flooded stores to get their mitts on Nike’s new ‘retro’ Air Jordans, which went on sale Friday morning Australian time right before Xmas. There have been reports of rioting, trampling and violence across the country.
In Seattle, cops used pepper spray. In Richmond, California, someone ‘accidentally’ fired off a handgun. Four people were arrested in Atlanta for inciting mob violence. But by far our favourite is the woman who LEFT HER BABY LOCKED IN A CAR so she could go and buy a pair of Jordans. Wonderful. They’re still just shoes.
One man was arrested for assault after authorities say he pushed an officer. “He did not get his shoes; he went to jail,” [Seatlle Police Officer] Mike Murphy said.
Great stuff, Western civilization. Thank God for the Arab Spring, or you’d have made 2011 a complete write-off with this one.
