Adrien Grenier, Cannes Winner, Cult Legend Head To MIFF

What do you get when you invite an Entourage star, an American cult cinema legend and an Aussie expat director to one of Australia’s most critically acclaimed film festivals?

The Melbourne International Film Festival, beginning July 22nd, has invited some high profile talents to dazzle this year’s attendance. First there’s Adrian Grenier – former Isabel Lucas flame and Entourage‘s Vincent Chase – will be heading down under to preview his doco Teenage Paparazzo. The film explores the culture of fame and celebrity – and the paparazzi who fuel our obsession. The film introduces us to 13-year-old Austin Visschedyk, a teenage paparazzo and it begins to examine a relationship that builds between Grenier and Visschedyk. Celeb interviews include Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Matt Damon, Alec Baldwin, Eva Longoria Parker and Whoopi Goldberg.

Grenier on the film when it premiered at Sundance:

Who remembers the B-grade horror films “Gremlins” and “The Burbs”? And who could forget, lurking in the deep waters, not Jaws, but… the sharp-toothed and deadly Piranha? As ludicrous as it sounds, director Joe Dante has become a legend in the hall of Hollywood fame. Dante, who is known for his subversive humour and social critique will present a collection of his cult classics, including “The Hole” and “The Movie Orgy.”

Michael Rowe, a Ballarat born director who now lives in Mexico will also return to Australia. His latest film, “Leap Year” which premiered at Cannes and took out the Camera d’Or Prize, is a controversial narrative about a journalist’s series of anonymous sexual partners. Yes, the film does include extremely graphic sex scenes, which even caused a few walkouts when it made its debut.

And just to round off this already impressive guest list, Indian superstar Aamier Khan will make an appearance to present his comedy film, “Peepli Live.” There’ll also be a series of Bollywood films shown which will reflect the growing popularity of Indian cinema.

The full program will be available this Friday.
