Adam Sandler Dusted Off The Iconic Opera Man For His ‘SNL’ Hosting Debut

It’s taken him some 24-odd years to do it, but Adam Sandler finally returned to the SNL stage that made him famous in the early 90s; his first appearance on the famed stage since he left the show in 1995. Fortunately enough for all concerned, he didn’t return alone.

Sandler’s tilt at the hosting wheel of the long-running show – remarkably enough, the first time he’s actually hosted the show – featured the long-overdue return of one of his most beloved recurring characters, Opera Man.

The Weekend Update regular made his spectacular return to the desk on this weekend’s episode, singing his way through a light array of news topics like Game of ThronesJoe Biden‘s creepy hands, the Kentucky Derby, and even Seth Rogen.

Thank lord that Elizabeth Warren joke had a larger point and got to it quickly. Always a worry when you can hear an audience collectively cringe.

In response to the segment, Seth Rogen posted his immediate, overjoyed reaction at having one of the 1990s most beloved sketch comedy characters hang shit on him without mercy.

Sandler’s return episode also featured cameos from Chris RockJimmy Fallon, and Kristen Wiig. And not to be one to forget where he came from, Sandler closed the episode out by playing his exceedingly moving musical tribute to his best friend, the late Chris Farley, who died in 1997 at the height of Sandler’s early career boon.

If you can get through that without getting a little misty eyed, you might consider seeking help.

Good gear, all of this. Really, really good stuff.

Bravo, Opera Man.
