ABC’s ‘The Slap’ Nominated For A BAFTA

In a giant leap forward for those championing the production of original (well, adapted) content for Australian television, the ABC-screened, Matchbox-produced adaptation of Christos Tsiolkas‘ novel, The Slap, has been nominated for a BAFTA.

The Slap will go up against a few great Danes, including political drama Borgen, and crime thriller The Killing, as well as family-friendly American lol-com Modern Family in the International category.

After dominating the inaugural AACTA awards, and taking out the esteemed Silver Logie for Outstanding Drama Series, Miniseries or Telemovie and Outstanding Actress for Melissa George, it’s safe to say the BAFTA nom is another notch on The Slap’s belt that in the future will be used to beat sub-par Australia programming into submission. Or something less violent, but nonetheless captivating and provocative.

The British Academy of Film and Television Art divides its namesake awards into different Film and Television events, with the latter taking place Sunday May 27th at the Royal Festival Hall.
