Mumbrella is reporting that the ABC has confirmed a sequel to its critically acclaimed docudrama about the halcyon days of Australian publishing, Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo.
Unfortunately not a vehicle for Asher Keddie and her pitch-perfect Ita Buttrose (‘s lisp), the sequel will instead concern the legendary rivalry between Dulcie Boling of New Idea and Nene King of Women’s Day. Once colleagues, the latter is famed for doubling the circulation of Women’s Day to over 1.4 million copies weekly throughout the height of the scandalous mid-90s, in a game of chequebook tabloid journalism oneupmanship that’ll have Australian actresses clamouring for the roles like a stifled 70s housewife for a sealed centrefold.
