Aaron Eckhart Thinks Trump Protests Are Eerily Similar To ‘The Dark Knight’

Ready to get all up in this sweet nostalgia for Christopher Nolan‘s ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy? YEAH YOU ARE.
Good, because Aaron Eckhart has done an interview with The Huffington Post, where he compares the films with the modern state of the US, especially in cities (like Gotham) who are protesting the appointment of Donald Trump as President of the United States.
Eckhart told the site that that current anti-Trump demonstrations echo the sentiments of ‘The Dark Knight‘, in terms of citizens wanting to take control of their lives and safety because they no longer trust their government and police force to protect them.

“We all have those feelings inside of us of like, ‘I would like to make a difference. I would like to be able to act. How do I do it?’

Batman, especially in the ‘Dark Knight’ and that trilogy, is an excellent example of – now he has different tools than us and he has money but – our desire as good citizens to make a difference, and how do we do it with all the corruption that it amongst us right now.”
Eckhart speaks of seeing some of the anti-Trump protests while walking to his home in New York City, and says that film can often give an overarching glimpse into everyday sentiments of normal people and the current landscape of the political and social world.
“Cinema, art is a mirror of our time … even if it’s a Western or if it’s a superhero movie or whatever, it’s all coming from the collective unconscious.

So ‘Batman,’ I thought, had so many complex levels.”
TRUE.
Batman truly is the hero we deserve, but not the one we need right now. Actually… fuck, wait. No, we need Batman. We really goddamn need Batman
