A Show About Sex Will Fill The John Safran & Father Bob-Sized Void In 2016

Our Sunday night selves are in mourning today, after it was confirmed that John Safran and Father Bob Maguire are finishing up ‘Sunday Night Safran on triple j’ after more than a decade of perfect harmony.
John broke the news to listeners at the end of last night’s show, at the same time as sharing deets about a new project he’ll be working on:
“The good news is that I’m off. I’m off on a little book adventure where I’m going around the country and looking into Islam and anti-Islam in modern-day Australia. That’s the book I’m working on which will be out late next year. The bad news is that this is the last year of Sunday Night Safran.”

Official confirmation this morning came via triple J’s Facebook page, the response to which (10K likes and counting) goes to show just how much we’re going to miss their thoughtful discussions on everything from religion to road trips, and general bickering.

In a press release sent around to media, triple j dropped a hint at what will be filling the John & Bob-sized hole in our hearts come 2016.
“Stay tuned in January as the rest of triple j’s presenters return after the summer break and we kick off a new Sunday night program about sex and relationships,” it read.
No word on who the hosts will be, and there’s no *replacing* everyone’s favourite radio odd couple, but can get onboard with 2 hours of sex talk to cap off a weekend.

For his part, Fr Bob will continue with Father Bob’s Foundation, providing meals through The Father Bob HopeMobile, helping kids get a fair start through The Father Bob Scholarship Fund and being an all-round legend.

TBC if he’ll grace us with a second Kanye impersonation but we can dream.

The final show will air at 9pm Sunday 13 December.
