The Trailer For Ryan Murphy’s New Doco ‘A Secret Love’ Is Here & Is Somebody Cutting Onions

A couple of women in their 80s and their 65-year secret relationship are now the subject of Ryan Murphy’s new documentary, A Secret Love, so pass the fucking tissues.

The Netflix documentary tells the story of a seven-decade-long love story of Terry Donahue and Pat Henschel, who met in the all-American Girls Professional Baseball League. While the baseball team inspired the hit film A League Of Their Own, the couple inspired a story of their own.

“Amid shifting times, two women kept their decades-long love a secret. But coming out later in life comes with its own set of challenges,” the Netflix description reads.

The story kicks off in 1947, when the couple first met, and follows their journey, including coming out to their conservative families in 2009.

Director and Donahue’s great-nephew Christopher Bolan was inspired to tell the story after his great aunts came out to the conservative family in 2009, decades after their romance began. Seriously, pass the tissues, I’m already sobbing.

“We have not had any same-sex couples, but we do have family members that are,” a nursing home staff member points out as the trailer begins.

“If they were, would they be accepted? Because we are a couple,” Henschel replies.

Honestly, this is the heartwarming story of a lifelong love that we need to get through 2020.

“I knew he would be the right partner to bring on board this project. The love story between Terry and Pat is an inspiration and example to us all especially during this time where we are all looking to be uplifted,” executive producer Jason Blum told TIME.

A Secret Love premieres on Netflix on April 29, you can take a sneak peek at the trailer below.
