2009 Emmy Nominees

The nominations for the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards Nominations have been announced with stellar comedy 30 Rock and ad-land drama Mad Men leading the charge.

Three Aussies garnered nominations with Rose Byrne (Damages) nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama, Toni Collete (United States Of Tara) nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy and Simon Baker (The Mentalist) nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama.

The big story however was the continued dominance of Tina Fey’s 30 Rock with a record breaking 22 Emmy nominations for the show, eclipsing the previous record of 17. Fey is also nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series after guest-hosting the show on which “30 Rock” is based – Saturday Night Live. Fey, who was a past SNL cast member and head writer earned almost universal praise for her impressions of Sarah Palin and looks to be the favourite in the category as well.

Neil Patrick Harris aka Doogie Howser MD will host the event in Los Angeles on September 20.
