Tinder Revealed The Most Used Emojis In 2019 & It Seems We’ve All Had A Bit Of A Year

Tinder / Someone Great

Tinder has dropped in to say a cheeky g’day as it celebrates another 365 days in dating. I’m talking the hottest trends, words, and emojis going ’round in all your bios. And look, if the emoji results are anything to go by – 2019 was truly a big bloody sigh.

According to the folk at Tinder Australia, 2019 was the year of the facepalm emoji. Fair enough. The very telling emoji saw an increase of 41 per cent this year in Aussie Tinder bios, taking up a huge chunk of the [checks notes] 300 million bio emojis.

Tinder also reports that the shrugging emoji, which I use far too much in this form ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, was a huge fave this year as well. Again, based on my own personal use of the emoji, I’m reading this as a big “AH WELL, WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO” vibe.

And finally, under 25s and millennials kept throwing up the peace sign in their bios. Okay, confession time – I cannot stop doing the peace sign in real life. I can’t control it, it’s a big problem, and it’s starting to seep into my texting style so I 100% get this.

Speaking of “100%”, Tinder also unveiled the top 10 terms Aussie daters used in bios this year and said percentage is on the list. As is “woke”, “lit”, “mood”, “stan”, “basic”, “extra”, “shook”, “snack”, and “yeet”.

I love a good yeetyboi on a ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ day.

But just to circle back for a bit, the facepalm and shrugging emojis are two of the most popular emojis in Tinder bios this year. If that doesn’t sum up the state of my (maybe your) life and everything going on in the world, I don’t know what will. Christ.

Happy almost-2020, pals.
