We’re currently in week two of social distancing, but if you thought we’d all got the message by now, think again because people are still going to the beach.

Despite the government’s crystal clear instructions to stay at least 1.5 metres away from other people and avoid congregating in large crowds, dozens of Melbournians flocked to St Kilda Beach this afternoon.

Look at this shit.

What are you doing? Go home, people, go home!

Let me just preface this by saying that St Kilda Beach is a pretty average beach at the best of times. But when the government has strictly ordered us NOT to go to the beach, every man and their fucking dog has decided that it’s a great day to feel St Kilda’s sub-par sand between their toes.

Melbourne hit a maximum temperature of 28 degrees today, which I assure you is cool enough to stay the fuck home. But instead of doing their part to help flatten the curve, dozens of people felt the need to go to the beach.

The crowds come just days after Victorian Premier Dan Andrews specifically asked us all to stay the fuck home.

“I want to be very clear; the more people ignore the rules and ignore the advice – the more the virus will continue to spread,” Dan Andrews said in a statement on March 25.

“For Victorians that means if you can stay home, you must stay home,” he ordered.

Home. Not the beach, not your local shopping centre, HOME.

Trust me, St Kilda Beach is not worth risking peoples’ lives. It’s really not that great of a beach, especially not during a pandemic.

To quote Kourtney Kardashian, “Kim, there’s people that are dying.”

If you’re going to the beach, or doing anything that’s not social distancing, you ARE Kim.

If you think you may have coronavirus, either call your doctor (DON’T visit) or contact the national Coronavirus Health Information Hotline on 1800 020 080. If you’re struggling to breathe or experiencing a medical emergency, call 000.

And please remember to wash your hands frequently (for at least 20 seconds) and keep at least 1.5 metres between you and those around you.
