RSPCA Just Slashed Adoption Fees, So Now’s Yr Chance To Adopt A Pet To Self-Isolate With

The South Australian RSPCA has slashed adoption fees in an attempt to clear out shelters amid the coronavirus pandemic.

As we all begin  to self-isolate and socially distance ourselves, it seems like a pretty good time to invest in a four-legged companion.

The coronavirus pandemic has caused staffing issues in businesses across Australia, and unfortunately the RSPCA is not exempt from this. But to make matters worse, if the RSPCA shuts down, thousands of animals could be left without the care they require.

Thankfully, this means you could adopt a dog or cat for cheaper than usual. You can adopt a dog or kitten for just $99 or an older cat for only $29, which is an absolute steal for a long-term life companion.

The move comes as RSPCA South Australia aims to rehome as many animals as possible before having to close down if the pandemic gets worse.

“This virus is impacting on multiple fronts, leaving us with more animals and less people and funds to care,” RSPCA chief Paul Stevenson said.“Our animal operations are at a critical point.”

Unfortunately, shelter numbers have increased in recent weeks, with the kitten numbers 16% higher than this time last year.  The RSPCA is currently caring for more than 400 kittens, with numbers increasing every day.

It goes without saying, if you’re struggling for work or have recently lost your job, don’t go out and adopt a dog or a cat. Animals are not a temporary decision, please don’t adopt a pet if you’re not ready to fully commit to a new family member for as long as they live.

However, if you’re lucky enough to be in a position to adopt a pet right now, there are hundreds of adorable cats and dogs that are waiting for a forever home. You can check out all of the available pets on the RSPCA website here.
