Escape Sharon In Accounts Forever By Nabbing One Of These 4 Poolside Jobs

The office job life ain’t for everyone, let me tell you. There are some folk out there who prefer to roam free-range, not caged by the jail that is a desk or cubicle adorned with cute piccies of nights where you’d insisted to your mates that “honestly, this year is the year I’ll quit, I swear”.

We don’t blame you. The thought of getting paid to sit in the sunlight, chilling under a tree or on the sand – oh yes, it appeals. It APPEALS.

So we did a bit of digging to see if we could cop a gig that’ll actually let you work straight from beneath your sun umbrella. Turns out there’s actually stacks – all you need is a laptop and a solid WiFi connection. And sunscreen, ‘coz safety first.

Writing

Writing is something that can be done literally anywhere, with literally the most minimal of preparation. Heck, you’re at the beach. Write in the sand. Obviously getting paid for it requires a bit more finesse, but the point remains: you could do it wherever you like on this ridiculous green globe of a world.

Being out and about is probably a good thing for your writing anyway ‘coz it helps add colour to your work – and we never say no to a lil’ bit of extra inspo. If you wanna get involved, start pitching your ideas to different publications. Write as much as you can, keep practicing and pitch EVERYWHERE.

Translator

Who’d have thought, hey? A lot of companies and individuals need important documents translated, so if you can talk the talk in another tongue or two, you’re in pretty great standing to be able to translate remotely. Don’t know one yet? There are stacks of apps to help.

All you need is your computer and your multilingual brain, as you get sent a document to translate while you recline on a sun lounge. It’s a tough life, right? Bonus points ‘coz the language makes it easier to imagine you really are on the Spanish Riviera or on an island in Bora Bora. If you’re keen on getting into translation, refine your second (or third) language skills to a point where you’re fluent.

Digital marketing

With so many careers going digital these days, you’ve definitely got a lot of scope for working remotely – and marketing is one of those gigs that can make it work. Once again, all you need is your laptop, phone and a solid internet connection.

If you’re keen on becoming a digital marketing extraordinaire, you can check out General Assembly’s Digital Marketing Immersive course to suck in a bunch of knowledge that’ll have you building your own chatbots and mapping out content strategies while pantsless on a towel.

Data entry

Look it’s not the most glamorous of jobs, but it’s something you can do without being restricted to an office chair that makes your back feel like it’s already aged about 67 years. It’s simple – take the data, pop it in the spreadsheet. Easy peasy.

It’s also portable enough that you can do it on the go. Generally you’ll have a stack of papers or books with you, so as long as you’ve got something to protect them from the elements, you should be good to go, friend. A lot of places are in need of casual data entry workers so advertise your services online and check out job boards to see if companies are on the hunt.

And look, if all else fails you know that you can always up your ‘gram game and hope to become an Instagram influencer where your job practically mandates you to be next to the pool at least some of the time. Alternatively, become good friends with one, and you’ll be able to use your photography skills for them.

In all seriousness though, you defs shouldn’t feel like you’ve got no other option than to sit behind a desk for the rest of your life. There are so many interesting career choices (and plenty more options for study at General Assembly if the idea of a course strikes your fancy) that give you the freedom to roam around like a happy lil’ gazelle in a field. Because really, that’s all we want.
