Haters-to-lovers stories may be the greatest of all time. From classic romances like Pride & Prejudice and the first episode of Heated Rivalry to everyday relationships, there’s something so satisfying about that hater facade slowly melting away as people desperately try to suppress their growing love.
In fact, one could argue that kombucha is the poster child of the haters-to-lovers experience: a drink often unjustly hated at first, yet loved twice as hard by all its fans.
That’s why we’re teaming up with Remedy Drinks to gift the greatest haters-to-lovers story with a year's worth of kombucha. Tell us a haters-to-lovers evolution you've experienced for a chance to win enough Kombucha to have your fridge stocked and your heart full for a year.
Need some inspo? Here are some bangers from my co-workers that’d make Anna Todd herself take notes.
Believing in the booch
It all started when I got a job at a very hip office. I’m talking batch brew, tote bag, fisherman beanie on a 40-degree day vibes — and all those kids would order in our weekly office supply restock were slabs upon slabs of kombucha.
A huge hater of the stuff, I would rag on all my co-workers for drinking it. I even started a mock petition to ban it from the office and replace them with some real lunch-time bevvies instead.
Eventually, my manager had enough of my snarky remarks and made me try one in front of him to prove that I was a fully backed hater and ‘cos I was committed to my bit, I did.
One sip of that Raspberry Lemonade Remedy Kombucha and my mind completely blanked. It was bloody nice… But I couldn’t admit that! I still had my pride, you know! So for the next year, I had to keep up the booch-hater act as I secretly enjoyed the beverage (out of work hours, of course).
Best believe, I am now a firm believer in the booch.
Oyster, I don’t even know her!
Oh, oysters, I wanted to love them.
They give the perfect rich TV housewife energy and I wanted in. But I just couldn’t get past the fact that they were slimy, cold, fishy AND creamy? They truly gave ocean snot vibes, so it was always a hard pass from me.
One day, I attended a gorgeous wedding that really had me living my RHOBH fantasy, and lo and behold, they had a huge table of oysters on offer.
They were prettily sitting on ice with designated shuckers behind the bar, so extravagant, it almost felt rude not to try one!
Reluctantly, I ordered one and watched in fear as they shucked open the sea specimen. But to my surprise, they added this sauce that I’d never seen before: a vinaigrette.
I closed my eyes and hyped myself up, telling myself, “Okay, this feels chic. This feels elevated. Maybe this is my moment”. And lord, it kinda was.
Suddenly, it all made sense. The salt and vinegary mix? Perfection.
Now I’m out here ordering oysters like I didn’t spend years being their biggest hater.
The (un)happy Gilmore
I’m nervous to share this, but I used to HATE Adam Sandler.
I was forced to watch Jack and Jill on repeat during my school days, as if it were some sort of inside joke or form of torture performed by our teachers. Pretty insane that this film was my first impression of Adam Sandler, considering his extensive catalogue, but it was, and I thought he was the most annoying person in the world because of it.
Fast forward to the 2020 lockdown, I was scrolling through Netflix and was overwhelmed by the mammoth Adam Sandler collection they had on offer. You couldn’t surf more than 20 titles without seeing his head.
Preparing to hate-watch, I chucked on Happy Gilmore…and I liked it? I binged all his classics and ended up developing a HUGE crush on him (can you blame me?)
There you have it, the juiciest haters-to-lovers stories PTV has to offer.
Now that you’ve quenched your thirst for some goss, hopefully you can quench your thirst with a year’s worth of Remedy Kombucha too.
Good luck!
