Ciao, beautiful. I have a bone to pick with a couple of folks. Yes, it involves the word ‘lasagne’, and how most people treat it with less respect than it deserves. As an Italian, who has dined on many a homemade lasagne from Nonna’s very own heavenly oven, I will no longer be accepting this slander in my life.
Now, most of us have heard the famous Lil Wayne rap line “real G’s move in silence like lasagne,” right? Well, it’s from the song ‘6’7′, and caused a bit of controversy when it first came out in 2010. Suddenly everyone and their paisan were questioning whether or not the ‘g’ in lasagne is actually silent.
After this topic of discussion moved into popularity, the main consensus was that yes, the ‘g’ in lasagne is actually pretty fkn vital to the function of the word.
Alas, it seems some people haven’t learnt their lesson. Not enough people going to the school of Lil Wayne, it seems.
Too many times I still see memes like the following, which trash upon my best friend, the letter g, calling it useless and unnecessary in the word lasagne. Friends, I can no longer take it. The letter g deserves so much better than this slander.

I mean, pardon my Italian, but what the fuck did ‘g’ do to deserve this?
The thing is, g isn’t actually silent in lasagne. It’s vital. Necessary. The word would fall apart without the letter g. I’d go as far as saying that it’s the strongest letter in the word. It’s un-Italian to talk shit about it.
You see, the letter g in lasagne changes the way that we pronounce the letter ‘n’. We make the ‘NYA’ sound because of it. Without the letter g, which everyone thinks is so useless, we would be saying la-sa-na. Lasana? Not in my timeline.

Say lasagne slowly and you’ll realise just how much influence the letter g has. In a word like campaign, you could argue that the g doesn’t really do much, because if you remove it you’d be saying it the same. However, the g in lasagne is vital, my friends.
